My Therapeutic Vision

According to the American Psychological Association, mental health therapy can "help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives.” That seems pretty straight forward, doesn't it?  One might then ask, how do we do that?  That's where our work together begins.  The answer to that question is unique to each of us.  My job, in part, is to work with you to find that unique answer.

What kind of therapist do you want?  An important question.  I bring extensive life experience to our therapy.  Before I became a therapist, I worked for over 20 years in corporate management, managing and mentoring others.  Prior to that, I served as a non-commissioned officer in the United States Air Force.  My background and my specific training, education and experience as a therapist afford me a diverse vision of interpersonal communication dynamics and cognitive/emotional centered problem solving.  My approach to the therapeutic process is solution focused, collaborative and direct.  From a foundation of empathy and compassion, I enable a safe and honest therapy experience with an emphasis on empowerment, clarity and intentionality.  Contact me to schedule a free consultation.

Individual Therapy

Do you believe your mind has the power to make you unhappy?  If you do, does it not also make sense that it has the power to do the opposite?
My practice is influenced by my training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).  I see individuals who are 15 years or older.

Happy Couple

Couple/Relationship Therapy

We are unique in the animal kingdom in our need to form long term, intimate partnerships.  In the best of circumstances, this is a complicated endeavor.  The world we live in and the affect our respective upbringing has on us influence our reactions and behaviors when interacting with others.  This is especially true in our intimate partnerships.  When we are struggling in those relationships, it can feel like we have no place of refuge in our life.  And when we are living in relational health, our relationship becomes our safe harbor.  I am a Certified Relational Life Therapist through the Relational Life Institute under Terry Real and also have training  in the Gottman Method.  Let me help you create your safe harbor.

Services I Offer

Individual Therapy for persons 15 years old or older.
Couple/Marriage/Relationship Counseling

Note:  I do not write or provide Emotional Support Animal Letters.

I am in network for Cigna, MediCal (CCAH, Beacon) and Blue Shield of California.  Please see the following notes.

Note 1:  I am not in network for couple therapy with MediCal. Only individual therapy.

Note 2:  If you are a Blue Shield of California member, please verify that Blue Shield covers your mental health benefits directly.  They often contract mental health services out to a third party insurance company, Magellan.  This will show up in your plan as MHSA (Mental Health Services Administration).  If this is what you have, I am not in network with Magellan and services with me will not be covered by your insurance.  You can contact Blue Shield's MHSA and obtain a referral list of in network therapists.

Good Faith Estimate for Non-Insurance Clients

If you are paying out of pocket, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
